    Description

Multiple of these cannonballs would be wrapped up in a cloth sack or metal spiral cage. The bunch of cannonballs resembled the formation of grapes hence the name. The grapeshot cannonballs would then be loaded into large stout cannons such as the Carronade. The explosive blast would fire the many projectiles similar to a giant shotgun. These cannonballs were both naval and land based ammunition. This grapeshot is made from cast iron although some would be made of lead. It is approximately 2.5” in diameter and is in good condition regarding its age.
