    Description

Kismet, the 1930 John Francis Dillon Arabian Baghdad romantic fantasy adventure melodrama ("Revealing 1001 Ecstasies 1001 Secret Delights"; based on the play by Edward Knoblock) starring Otis Skinner, Loretta Young (very young and beautiful in this role!), David Manners, Mary Duncan, Sidney Blackmer, and Ford Sterling. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist (however, the Vitaphone disc and home movie footage of the cast does exists). This was an English language version of the German language "Kismet", also made by First National Pictures in 1931 (but this was English language version was released in 1930). Universal did the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931. They filmed the movie twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, with two entirely different casts, U.S. actors for the English version and mostly Latin actors for the Spanish version, obviously for release in Spanish speaking countries, and the same was done with this movie, except it was released in German and English (the German language version, directed by William Dieterle, starred Gustav Frohlich and Dita Parlo).
